slab and bier and beam
Jana asks:
Can a house be both slab AND pier and beam. I recently looked at a house for sale and the realtor said it was slab poured on top of pier and beam. Is this possible? What are the pros and cons of this?

Jana

Answer from Tommy:
Yes, this is very common. This is done because the sub-soil does not support the weight of a structure over time. Pilings are driven until they reach staple soil. These are driven both on the outer edges and the interior of the home. The beams and steel are normally part of the slab and bear directly on the pile. This is good construction if done right.
